Sports Supervisor

This seasonal position works with the Public Works and Recreation Director to oversee fields and evening/weekend games and activities.

  • Salary:  $14.00/hour
  • Opportunity for 20-35 hours weekly

Essential Functions

  • Ensure all fields are set-up for each kind of game
  • Repair fields in-between games
  • Utilize a variety of tools, hammers, saws, shovels, screw drivers, wrenches, and others
  • Must have a driver’s license to operate a Gator (utility vehicle) 
  • Be alert and attentive to duties at all times
  • Be helpful and courteous to the public and fellow employees at all times
  • Attempt to correct all infractions quickly and firmly
  • Refer to the Public works and Recreation Director if anyone should be ejected.  The Director is the only person authorized to eject someone from the premises.
  • Be on time and wear appropriate apparel while on duty, including closed-toe shoes
  • Maintain proper attitude while on duty
  • Remain at your post until all games have been finished
  • Report to the Director at the beginning of each break for instruction
  • Report any accidents to the Director
  • Report any damage or equipment in need of repair to the Director
  • Refer to the Director for any suggestions, grievances or questions
  • Comply with suggestions from the Director
  • Be familiar with all field policies and procedures
  • Enforce safety/COVID rules
  • Perform other tasks assigned by the Director of Public Works and Recreation (bulk of work)

Job Qualifications

  • Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with fellow employees, city officials and the general public
  • Residence within the city limits of Chapman is preferred
  • First aid and CPR certification is a plus
  • Must have driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Work involves walking, lifting, pulling, pushing, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, dexterity, agility, seeing, hearing, talking and a high level of alertness
  • Full-time regular attendance is required

Education, Training, License, Certification and Experience

  • Past employment involving maintenance experience is preferred, but not required

  • Hand tools

  • Gator (utility vehicle)
  • Others (depends on requirements needed)

Physical Demands

  • Moderate level of stress
  • Working for extended period of time in excessive heat
  • Ability to stand and jog/run for extended periods of time
  • Work involves walking, lifting, pulling, pushing, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, dexterity, agility, seeing, hearing, talking and a high level of alertness
  • Occasionally lifting of up to 75 lbs
  • Ability to shift focus, exceptional near, far and peripheral vision

The environmental demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
