Community Rating System
The City of Chapman participates in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) Community Rating System (CRS) program. This is a voluntary incentive program that recognizes participating communities’ efforts and encourages floodplain management activities that exceed minimum NFIP requirements.
The NFIP provides a discount in flood insurance premiums to communities that:
- establish higher floodplain standards;
- provide better floodplain mapping and flood risk information to the community;
- protect open space;
- and maintain storm water infrastructure.
Communities are rated into 10 classes, with each class providing an additional 5% discount in flood insurance premiums. The City of Chapman is currently rated as Class 8, which provides a 10% discount in flood insurance premiums for all properties located in a Zone A, AE, or AH flood zone (known as the 100-year flood zone).
More information about the Community Rating System can be found at www.fema.gov/floodplain-management.
