Under the supervision of the Public Works Director, the Utility Worker is a non-exempt position under FLSA which performs unskilled and semi-skilled duties. This employee is responsible for installation, maintenance and repairs of the city water distribution system, wastewater collection system, streets, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, and parks infrastructure. Supports other departments as assigned. Employee must have a strong mechanical, construction and repair aptitude. Assigned duties will vary and will include both daily routines and one time or special assignments. The ability to quickly adapt to emergent or rapidly changing work assignments is highly desirable. Must demonstrate effective communication and public relations skills. Work assignments will occasionally include evenings, weekends, and holidays. Valid Kansas driver license is required. This employee is responsible for installation, maintenance and repairs of water distribution system, water supply system, wastewater collection system, wastewater treatment facility, electrical distribution and secondary systems. The City of Chapman is currently accepting applications and resumes for the non-exempt position of Director of Public Works. This position oversees all City of Chapman Public Works operations including water production and distribution, street maintenance and repair, curb and gutter repair, parks and recreation infrastructure, pool maintenance, and electric production and distribution. Public works provides operational support to parks, recreation, golf, and administration. The position is a working position supervising several full time and part time employees. The director is supported by an assistant public works director and reports to the City Administrator. The director will be responsible for wastewater treatment facility operation. The director also is responsible for planning, budgeting, and compliance within city public works operations. Water and wastewater certifications preferred. Class II Wastewater certification required within one year of employment. Must pass a drug screen upon conditional offer of employment. Valid Kansas CDL required. Annual salary is expected to be not less than $60,000 with additional consideration depending on qualifications, certifications and experience. The ideal candidate will have strong communication, planning, budgeting, supervision, and management capabilities as well as successful wastewater plant operation experience. Residency within Chapman city limits is expected within 6 months of start of employment.
